The Sleeping Giant...

thanks to : The Snowbelt Parson over at The Allegheny Journal, I have the most wonderful camping spot in the Minister Creek / Fools Run Area!
Today we spent the afternoon seeking this spot, and we found it! My husband and daughter loved it!
We will enjoy our stay here!
I found a grilling fork, a votive and an earlier find by a friend...
The rock city located here is very nice. I will have quite a bit of exploring to do!
There are some wonderful hikes nearby, and a cozy rock shelter to call our own for a few days.
This little guy/ girl was hiding among the ferns here! S/he was fluttering and sounded like a little helicopter... :)
Very sweet. I am enamored with the forest. I've spent very little quality time under the great canopy since I was a child. In some ways, it's like
going home. The adventurousness that I had forgotten is back, and my kids and husband are all for it! All because of a bicycle. Below is the gate at the beginning of the hike to Sleeping Giant...
it's coordinates are: N 41* 37' 52.3" W 079* 19' 05.6" (41.631194 -79.151556). For more detailed directions, Head on over to the Allegheny Journal.

off topic, but close: Hanging Bog

My husband and I quietly celebrated our third anniversary this Independence Day, with a small afternoon meal of fruit, cheese, and crackers (tea?) at the Hanging Bog Wildlife Management Area, in New Hudson, New York.We saw this friendly little critter from the observation deck where we had our meal.
A great blue heron popped in for a visit, although you can hardly see him in the photo below!
we had a nice afternoon! Peace, quiet, nature and us.

Today we went into the forest. Mike,(husband)Brenden, Brianna, and I. We wandered around a bit near Watson Run Rocks, and we happened upon these three feeding Great Spangled Fritillaries.
It was so peaceful. I really do enjoy ANF. :) I am very happy that I finally decided to take advantage of the wonderland so near home.
